Environmental Policy

Environmental Policy

Prestbury House Hotel and Management Centre recognises that it has responsibilities towards a wider environment, and that its activities as a business has an effect on the environment, the negative impacts of which need to be minimised wherever practicable.

Prestbury House is therefore committed to:

  • Developing an environmental strategy covering all departments, support areas and business functions of the Hotel and Management Centre.
  • Monitoring the environmental performance of existing operations.
  • Having particular regard for the preservation of important wildlife habitats.
  • Co-operating fully with the relevant authorities in meeting legal obligations towards the environment.

Management responsibility and communication

Stephen Whitbourn will be responsible for internal environmental affairs within the Hotel and Management Centre and will ensure that strategic action plans are developed to progressively implement Prestbury House's Environmental Policy.

Prestbury House will communicate the Hotel and Management Centre Environmental Policy to all employees and incorporate the policy into staff induction and development programmes.

Energy

Energy management not only benefits the environment in terms of resource conservation and pollution reduction, it also makes economic sense.

Prestbury House will promote energy efficiency throughout the Hotel by monitoring energy consumption, identifying areas for energy conservation and setting practical targets for energy savings.

Purchasing

Prestbury House can influence the environmental performance of suppliers through its purchasing decisions.

Prestbury House will aim to use sustainable produce or recycled products whenever the quality us suitable for the task.

Pollution and Waste

Prestbury House will aim to use 'environmentally safe' products wherever possible.

The Hotel and Management Centre will monitor the use of slurry and pesticides to avoid pollution of water courses. The Hotel will actively seek to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals on Prestbury House land both in the interest of wildlife conservation and to avoid causing a hazard or nuisance to users of and visitors to the Hotel and Management Centre.

Some Hotel and Management Centre activities can produce significant levels of potentially polluting waste products. Prestbury House will aim to contain and dispose of all potentially polluting wastes safely and with regard to the wider environment.

Minimisation of waste reduces the need for disposal resources and is economically desirable. The Hotel and Management Centre will aim to minimise waste production in all areas of Prestbury House activity, and explore all practical opportunities for recycling.

Conservation and Wildlife Habitat Management

Prestbury House is responsible for many wildlife habitats including woodland, grassland, hedgerows and grass verges.

Prestbury House will aim (within its functional remit) to conserve indigenous wildlife on all Prestbury House lands, and to have regard to the interests of wildlife and conservation when planning changes on the Hotel and Management Centre Estate.
